Surrey, on the other hand, look a better side on paper with all their bases covered. While the Eagles are a pretty strong side on paper and posted a decent total on a tricky surface, they found it challenging to contain AB de Villiers, as would most teams of the world would. Essex Eagles are still likely to miss the services of Mohammad Amir which renders their bowling lineup a little toothless. For those reasons, we think that Surrey are better placed to emerge on top in the upcoming fixture. They have an excellent amalgamation of youth and experience with almost all their batsmen capable of hitting the long ball right from the word go.

They have all their bases covered, at least on paper and will be a tough side to beat on Friday. Despite the presence of so many stars in their lineup, it was surprising to see them not qualify for the playoffs in the last edition of the tournament. While there are chances of it happening again, it is an unlikely scenario.

Barring Simon Harmer, who returned with the exceptional figures of 2 for 23, none of their bowlers was accurate enough at the death, which could be a cause of concern for their management. In the tournament up until now, the Eagles have won only three matches primarily due to the inconsistent performances from their middle order. They are coming off a heart-wrenching tie wherein they should have won after being in a position to dictate terms at one stage. Their bowlers gave away 41 runs in the last three overs, allowing Hampshire to tie the match.

To have any chance of progressing to the next round, they'll need to win their upcoming contest as well wherein they face Essex Eagles. A superb century from Aaron Finch not only kept the tournament open but also kept his side still in the hunt to qualify for the playoffs. They are currently floating in the middle part of the ladder, but a win in their next match will push them to the fourth spot, provided other results fall their way as well. The match is to be played on 29th August at the Kennington Oval in London. Essex Eagles have been poor in the tournament so far, to say the least, and will be looking to redeem some pride by winning as matches as possible in their remaining two games.

Overall, Essex Eagles are an extremely experienced side, but the lack of flamboyance and the power-hitters have cost them at least a couple of matches in the tournament so far. To overcome high-flying Surrey, they'd need to play out of their skins on Thursday, and they are certainly capable of doing it. Their problem of under-performing middle order could go for a toss if Lawrence manages to resume from where he left. Dan Lawrence was brilliant in the earlier part of the tournament and has recovered fully from the injury he sustained while playing against Sussex.

However, the downside for them is that they have already played 13 matches while some of the other team still have two matches to go. They will now have to win their last match and also expect the results of other teams to go their way as they hope to make it to the quarter finals. Surrey have have had a tied game and one of their matches was abandoned due to rain, which is why the team has a net run rate of -0.1 79.

The inclusion of Ollie Pope and Sam Curran helped them balance their squad in the previous match and with the pair likely to be available for the remainder of their games, the Surrey have a pretty good chance to finish among the top four sides, provided the other results go their way. Aaron Finch has been in tremendous form for then, and that hundred from him in the last match would provide a significant boost not just to his confidence, but also to the team's as well.

They are coming into this match with five wins in their previous six games, and it will be interesting to see how far their momentum takes them. Somerset got off to a rather poor start in the tournament and just when they were looking down, and out of the competition, a fabulous run in their last six matches has brought them back in contention for the playoffs.

Both the teams have punched well below their weights in the tournament this year, and while they both still have a chance to qualify to the next round, they both would need the results of other matches to fall their way. Essex Eagles, on the other hand, have a pretty well-balanced lineup on paper but have failed to play to their potential more often than not. Comparing the two sides on form and paper, Surrey appear to be a better side, and are, therefore, our pick to emerge on top in the upcoming encounter. Surrey have had a terrific run in their last six games and have the momentum, which can be a crucial thing in the shortest version of the game.

Toby Roland-Jones is 8.5 credits, as is Jade Dernbach despite his decent performance last time out. Mujeeb Ur Rahman will want a similar impact leading Middlesexs spin attack. Imran Tahir was expensive last time out and scored negative points as a result, but he can not be ignored given his reputation in T20 cricket.

They not only need to win their remaining two matches and hope for the results of the other matches to fall their way; they also need to win their two games with huge margins. They have a pretty poor net run rate of -0.775, which is undoubtedly going to go against them if things get close. Even though the Eagles are still in with the chance to qualify for the next round, the probability is more mathematical than practical.
